Ribavirin is an antiviral medication used to treat RSV infection, hepatitis C and some viral hemorrhagic fevers. For hepatitis C, it is used in combination with other medications such as simeprevir, sofosbuvir, peginterferon alfa-2b or peginterferon alfa-2a.In the present work an attempt was being made to formulate and evaluate Ribavirin liposomes. Phospholipid, Cholesterol, Methanol and Chloroform were used as excipients in the preparation of liposomes. The drug and excipient compatability was studied by using FTIR. Prepared liposomes of Ribavirin were incorporated into a gel using Carbopol 934. The developed formulation was evaluated for drug entrapment efficiency, pH measurement, in vitro drug release, drug content. F7 formulation shown maximum drug release which is considered as the optimized formulation.
